SIX SPORTS MANAGEMENT

Providing strategy consulting to key sports players

Supporting pure players since 2022

Strategy and governance of organizations

We support all types of sports organisations in developing long-term visions. To achieve this, we follow several key phases. Six Sports Management is involved in the entire process as well as in specific parts of it.

Firstly, an initial audit enables us to assess the organisation’s internal structure and the performance associated with it. This enables us to draw up strategic recommendations to optimise the organisation’s performance in the medium term.

The development of a strategic plan then involves defining the organisation’s main short-, medium- and long-term objectives. These may be determined by economic, identity-related or political needs, for example, but serve as a compass for any roadmap.

Finally, the roadmap is established by defining the projects and sub-objectives to be achieved, which are necessary for the success of the main ones. A timeframe, a benchmark and a quantified assessment are therefore required to evaluate their progress and manage them over the specified period.

Strategic plan definition

For the Racing Club de Lens, a French League 1 football club playing the Champions League, Six Sports Management was requested to contribute to the writing of the club’s strategic plan for the years 2025-2027. Revenue Management

Developing revenue strategies is a fundamental aspect of organising major sporting events and of the day-to-day management of sports organisations. As experts in sports business models, we support the full spectrum of stakeholders in defining their go-to-market strategy (identifying target audiences, determining the appropriate marketing strategy, structuring the commercial offering, etc.) as well as their product strategy (types of products and services to market, pricing, segmentation of the offering, etc.).

However, beyond optimising standard revenue strategies, Six Sports Management also offers support in developing diversification approaches aimed at maximising the value of the organisation’s assets and harnessing them to enhance both its financial performance and its marketing strategy, with a view to acquiring new prospects.

Cost Management

With a view to optimising revenue, Six Sports Management also works with sports organisations on their cost-reduction strategies. As this is a particularly broad area, we tackle it through a range of approaches:

Developing procurement optimisation strategies through improved supplier management and the optimisation of contracts, particularly variable-rate contracts (concessions, revenue sharing, etc.)

Optimising the sports payroll of professional clubs (and relevant federations), primarily by conducting strategic reviews of core staffing levels and their remuneration in the face of dual constraints imposed by the internal budget and the external market.

Finally, with the help of partners who are experts in these areas, we offer a full range of services to optimise the tax and social security structure of your organisation, with a view to optimising both its payroll and its tax liability.

For the 2023 Rugby World Cup organizing committee, Six Sports Management supported the executive directors and the president in preparing their public interventions on strategic topics (economic impact, legacy, geopolitics…) as well as during games time by preparing press conferences and releases alongside the communications department and general secretary.

Opportunity studies

We support our partners in carrying out opportunity and feasibility studies. This stage is crucial in determining whether it is appropriate to launch large-scale strategic projects. Some of the projects we have carried out have thus concluded that, no, the business model initially envisaged was not viable, leading us to develop balanced business model scenarios that deviate from the project’s original objective and result in decision-makers abandoning the project because it did not appear sustainable enough.

Carrying out these studies is a complex and comprehensive process. It first requires clearly identifying the target project to be assessed and comparing it with market realities by analysing both the existing competitive offering and the demand for such products or services. This analysis, which goes far beyond a simple benchmarking phase, often necessitates engaging a network of both B2B and B2C consumers to assess the project’s relevance and suggest adjustments where necessary. In a second stage, the study must then enable the precise determination of the offering to be proposed in order to guarantee the best economic performance in line with the initial objectives. This involves, in particular, a financial modelling phase. Once the adjustments and various scenarios to be examined using these tools have been determined, the study will finally enable recommendations to be made regarding the project’s suitability, thereby facilitating political or decision-making deliberations.
